Since time immemorial, the people living along the Krivaja have coexisted with the untamed river, making use of its dense forests, water, and mineral resources. Today, the Krivaja is threatened by aggressive extractivism as never before. This multilingual Open Science blog focuses on the interplay between the river, people, animals, forests, geology, and (geo-)political influences in the context of the Anthropocene.

SAVE KRIVAJA
The Open Science project KRIVAJA – A More-Than-Human Assemblage in Bosnia supports initiatives dedicated to protecting the Krivaja River and its entire ecosystem. Initiatives across Bosnia and Herzegovina—spanning the areas between Maglaj and Vareš, Zavidovići and Olovo, and well beyond—are opposing any plans to mine for chromium or other ores and critical raw materials in the river’s catchment area, activities that would cause irreparable damage to the Krivaja biome. The project aligns itself with initiatives campaigning against the construction of hydroelectric power plants on the pristine rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Southeast Europe.
