Rejna Kalabić

Academic background

She studied at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sarajevo, where she completed her degree in biology in 2024 and, in 2025, defended her master’s thesis, thereby obtaining the degree of Master of Biology.

Career and personal life

Born and raised in her beloved Novi Pazar, she studied in sunny Sarajevo and now lives and works in Zavidovići, in the heart of Bosnia, on the banks of the Krivaja. During her studies, she focused particularly on the study of amphibians and reptiles, through fieldwork and participation in several scientific research camps across the Balkans, including Tajan, Konjuh, Komarnica, Fojnica, Neretva and other locations. After completing her studies, she continued to develop her interest in field research and the conservation of biodiversity, with a particular focus on amphibians and freshwater ecosystems. Besides reptiles, she also took part in field studies on bats. Through her membership of the ‘Atom’ Sports, Science and Research Club in Zavidovići and the ‘Dr Stjepan Bolkay’ Centre in Olovo, she is actively involved in research and conservation initiatives. She also nurtures a special love for rivers through rafting, which she often returns to in her spare time.
